All Senior Care Services — Every type of senior care we cover: assisted living, memory care, nursing homes, in-home care, hospice, and more.
Senior care services we cover
We help San Diego County families navigate every type of senior care — from in-home support to full-time memory care. Here's what we cover and what each service means.
RCFE / Assisted Living
Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly (RCFE) provide room, board, personal care, and supervision for seniors who need help with daily activities but don't need 24-hour skilled nursing. Licensed by CDSS. Monthly cost in San Diego: $3,500–$7,500.
Memory Care
Secured units within an RCFE for residents with Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia. Staff are trained specifically in dementia care. California requires a separate CDSS endorsement for memory care. Monthly cost: $5,000–$9,000.
Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNF)
For seniors requiring 24-hour medical care, wound care, IV therapy, or post-surgical rehabilitation. Licensed by CDPH. Covered by Medicare (short-term) and Medi-Cal (long-term). Monthly cost: $9,000–$14,000.
In-Home Care & IHSS
Home health aides assist with bathing, dressing, meals, and medication reminders in the senior's own home. California's IHSS (In-Home Supportive Services) program pays for care for eligible Medi-Cal recipients — including hiring a family member. Hourly cost for private pay: $28–$38/hr.
Hospice & Palliative Care
Hospice is for seniors with a terminal prognosis of six months or less who choose comfort-focused care over curative treatment. Covered 100% by Medicare Part A. Can be provided at home, in an RCFE, or in a dedicated hospice facility.
Independent Living
For active seniors who want a community setting without personal care services. Independent living communities offer apartments, dining, and social activities. Not licensed by CDSS — no care is provided. Monthly cost: $2,500–$5,000.
